Best Laptop for AutoCAD, Revit and SolidWorks in the UAE (2026)
30 October 2026 · Ahmad Nedam

Choosing the best laptop for AutoCAD in the UAE is not the same problem as choosing a fast laptop. Engineering software does not want what gaming software wants, and if you buy on the size of the graphics card you can spend AED 12,000 and still watch a drawing stutter.
This guide uses the published requirements from Autodesk and from SOLIDWORKS' own specialists, not our opinion. It also tells you the two things most shops will not: which laptops we sell that are wrong for CAD, and the one program we would rather you did not buy a laptop from us for at all.
Key takeaways
- RAM decides more than the GPU. AutoCAD 2026 asks for 8GB as a minimum and 32GB as recommended. Revit 2026 asks 16GB minimum, 32GB recommended, 64GB for large models. SOLIDWORKS' specialists recommend 32GB for ordinary CAD work.
- Clock speed beats core count. All three programs lean on one core at a time for the work you feel. AutoCAD's recommended figure is 3GHz base and 4GHz turbo.
- ARM laptops are not supported by AutoCAD. Autodesk lists ARM processors as unsupported. That rules out several excellent Snapdragon laptops, including two we sell.
- SOLIDWORKS is the exception, and it is a big one. Its specialists name consumer GeForce cards as the most common source of SOLIDWORKS instability and recommend a certified professional card. We do not stock those. We will say so rather than sell you the wrong machine.
- For AutoCAD and Revit, a well-specified gaming laptop is excellent value and that is most of the engineering work done in this country.
The short answer
| What you run | RAM | CPU | GPU | SSD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AutoCAD, 2D drafting only | 16GB | 3GHz+ base, strong turbo | 8GB VRAM is comfortable; 4GB works | 512GB |
| AutoCAD 3D, Civil 3D | 32GB | 3GHz+ base, 4GHz+ turbo | 8GB VRAM | 1TB |
| Revit, ordinary models | 32GB | Strong single-core | 4GB VRAM minimum | 1TB |
| Revit, large federated models | 64GB | i9 / Ryzen 9 class | 8GB+ VRAM | 1TB NVMe |
| SOLIDWORKS, professionally | 32-64GB | High turbo clock | Certified professional card | 1TB NVMe |
If you take one number from this page, take 32GB.
What the software actually asks for
These are the published figures, not our recommendations.
AutoCAD 2026
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 2.5-2.9GHz, 8 logical cores | 3GHz+ base, 4GHz+ turbo |
| RAM | 8GB | 32GB |
| GPU | 2GB, DirectX 11 | 8GB, DirectX 12 |
| Disk | 10GB, SSD suggested | SSD |
| Display | 1920 x 1080 true colour | Up to 3840 x 2160 |
ARM processors are not supported. Autodesk's own support documentation states it in those words, directly under the processor requirement. This matters in 2026, because many of the best thin laptops on sale now are ARM.
Revit 2026
| Minimum | Recommended | Large models | |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | 2.5GHz+ | 2.5GHz+, strong single-core | i9 / Ryzen 9, high sustained single-core |
| RAM | 16GB | 32GB | 64GB+ |
| GPU | 4GB VRAM, DirectX 11 | 4GB VRAM | 8GB+ VRAM |
| Disk | 30GB free | 30GB free on SSD | NVMe |
SOLIDWORKS 2026
SOLIDWORKS lists 16GB as its minimum. Javelin, a SOLIDWORKS specialist, recommends at least 32GB for CAD use and 64-128GB for complex datasets, imports, 3D scanning and simulation.
On processors they are blunt: the CPU can be the single most influential component to your system, and turbo clock speed matters more than core count. Only Flow Simulation rewarded very high core counts.
And on graphics, the part that decides whether we can help you at all:
Consumer cards such as NVIDIA GeForce are the most common source of SOLIDWORKS instability.
Their laptop recommendation is an NVIDIA RTX PRO workstation card. We do not stock workstation-class laptops. See the honest bit below.
The three mistakes we watch people make

1. Buying the graphics card instead of the memory
The most common and the most expensive. Someone spends AED 9,000 on a machine with a large GPU and 16GB of RAM, opens a real project, and the laptop starts swapping to disk.
Every program above recommends 32GB. None of them recommends the biggest available GPU. A 32GB laptop with a mid-range card will beat a 16GB laptop with a top card at CAD work, every time, and usually costs less.
2. Buying an ARM laptop
Snapdragon laptops are superb machines: quiet, cool, and they run all day on a battery. Two of the best things in our own catalogue are ARM.
Autodesk states, in its own system requirements, that ARM processors are not supported.
So if you draft, do not buy one of these for that job, however good the specification looks:
| Laptop in our range | Why it is wrong for AutoCAD |
|---|---|
| Dell XPS 13 9345, Snapdragon X Elite, 32GB, AED 4,990 | 32GB and excellent, but ARM |
| ASUS Vivobook 16 X1607QA, Snapdragon X, 16GB, AED 2,199 | ARM |
We would rather lose this sale than have you discover it afterwards. If you want one of these for everything except CAD, they are genuinely good: see our Copilot+ PC guide.
3. Assuming a gaming laptop is a workstation
For AutoCAD and Revit it effectively is, and that is good news: the money goes further.
For SOLIDWORKS it is not, and no amount of specification fixes it. The difference is the certified driver, not the speed of the chip.
If you want the longer version of why two laptops carrying the same graphics card behave differently, we wrote it here: why the same RTX GPU can perform differently.

For AutoCAD 3D, Civil 3D and Revit: the 32GB machines
| Laptop | CPU | RAM | SSD | GPU | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GIGABYTE A16 PRO RTX 5070 Ti | Core 7 240H | 32GB | 1TB | RTX 5070 Ti 12GB | AED 7,399 |
| ASUS ROG Strix G16 G615LP | Core Ultra 9 275HX | 32GB | 1TB | RTX 5070 8GB | AED 8,199 |
| GIGABYTE A16 PRO RTX 5080 | Core 7 240H | 32GB | 1TB | RTX 5080 16GB | AED 8,599 |
| MSI Vector 16 HX AI A2XWIG-058US | Core Ultra 9 275HX | 32GB | 2TB | RTX 5080 16GB | AED 10,500 |
| ASUS ROG Strix G18 G815LR-IS97 | Core Ultra 9 275HX | 32GB | 2TB | RTX 5070 Ti 12GB | AED 11,500 |
| MSI Raider 18 HX AI | Core Ultra 9 285HX | 32GB | 1TB | RTX 5080 16GB | AED 11,999 |
| ASUS ROG Strix G18 G815LW | Core Ultra 9 275HX | 32GB DDR5 | 2TB | RTX 5080 16GB | AED 12,199 |
Best value: GIGABYTE A16 PRO RTX 5070 Ti, AED 7,399. It has the 32GB that every one of these programs asks for, a 16-inch WQXGA screen with the working area drafting wants, 12GB of video memory and a 1TB drive. It is the cheapest machine we stock that meets the recommended specification, by AED 800.
Best processor for CAD: ASUS ROG Strix G16 G615LP, AED 8,199. The Core Ultra 9 275HX sits a tier above the Core 7 240H in Intel's own range. Since all three programs lean on single-core turbo for the operations you actually wait on, the processor is where that extra AED 800 does real work. Note that it has the smaller GPU of the two, which for CAD is the right way round.
That is the honest trade: the cheaper machine meets the specification, the dearer one is faster at the job. Neither answer is buy the RTX 5080.
If you run large federated Revit models, go up to 64GB. None of the machines above ships with it; the ones with two memory slots can be upgraded, and we will tell you which before you buy rather than after.
For 2D AutoCAD, students and lighter work: the 16GB machines
| Laptop | CPU | RAM | SSD | GPU | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lenovo LOQ Essential 15ARP11 | Ryzen 7 170 | 16GB | 512GB | RTX 5050 8GB | AED 4,350 |
| Lenovo LOQ Essential 15IRX11 | Core i7-13650HX | 16GB | 512GB | RTX 5060 8GB | AED 4,799 |
| HP HyperX OMEN 15 | Core Ultra 7 255H | 16GB | 1TB | RTX 5060 8GB | AED 5,499 |
| ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614FM-WS94 | Ryzen 9 9955HX | 16GB | 1TB | RTX 5060 8GB | AED 6,299 |
These are honest 2D drafting machines and good student machines. They are under the recommended figure for 3D work, and we would rather you knew that than found out in your third week.
The honest part: when not to buy from us
If SOLIDWORKS is your main program and you work professionally, we are not your shop.
You want a laptop with an NVIDIA RTX PRO workstation card and a certified driver. We stock GeForce machines. A GeForce laptop will open SOLIDWORKS and will often work for months, and then it will fail a rebuild on a deadline, and the cause will be exactly what the specialists said it would be.
Buy a workstation laptop from a workstation supplier. We would rather tell you that than take AED 10,000 and inherit the problem.
If SOLIDWORKS is occasional, if you open models colleagues send you and you do not build 200-part assemblies, a 32GB machine from the first table is fine, and plenty of people work this way.
The UAE part
Heat is a real specification

A laptop that holds its speed for eight minutes and then slows down is a different machine from one that holds it for eight hours, and in this climate the gap widens. CAD is sustained load, not bursts.
Thicker 16 and 18-inch chassis hold their speed better than thin ones. It is the main reason we steer engineers away from the slimmest laptops, whatever the sticker says.

Two fans, two heat pipes and a clear path for the air to leave is what a sustained workload actually needs. A thin chassis with one fan will reach the same peak number and will not hold it.
BIM in Dubai
Dubai has required a BIM model with building permit applications for defined project categories since 1 January 2024, and the thresholds have been lowered repeatedly since the first circular in 2013. There are reports of a further lowering during 2026; the thresholds change, so confirm the current scope with the reviewing authority before you plan a project around them.
The practical effect for you is simple: Revit work in this city is growing, not shrinking, and the machine that was adequate for 2D AutoCAD in 2022 is not adequate for a federated model in 2026.
UAE warranty, and why it matters more here
An international warranty on a parallel import means shipping a faulty laptop abroad at your own cost. For a machine your work depends on daily, that is not a warranty, it is a delay. Everything we sell carries UAE manufacturer warranty.
Buying in November
If you are flexible on timing, read our guide to what actually gets cheaper in the UAE in November before you buy. The short version: real reductions on current laptops are small, and the specification matters far more than the percentage on the poster. Buying 16GB on offer instead of 32GB at full price is the most expensive saving available to an engineer.
The VAT invoice
If your company is buying, you need a proper tax invoice with the supplier's TRN to reclaim the VAT. We issue one automatically with every order, with part numbers and specifications on it.
Buying several
Fitting out a team is a different purchase from buying one laptop. Consistent specification matters more than the last 5% of performance, because your IT support, your software licences and your spares all get simpler.
We quote for that properly: formal quotation, revision history, proforma invoice. If you need five identical machines for a design office, request a wholesale quotation rather than adding them to a basket one at a time.
Before you buy: eight questions
- How much RAM, and can it be upgraded? 32GB is the answer for 3D. Ask how many memory slots.
- What is the turbo clock? It matters more than the core count for every program here.
- Is it ARM or x86? If you run AutoCAD, it must be x86.
- Which exact GPU and how much VRAM? 8GB is comfortable; VRAM and GPU speed are separate questions.
- Is it SOLIDWORKS-certified? If SOLIDWORKS is your main tool, this question decides everything else.
- Screen size and resolution. 16-inch WQXGA gives real drawing area. A 15.6-inch 1080p panel is cramped for a ribbon, a model space and a palette. Our guide to comparing laptop prices in Dubai covers the rest of the specification traps.
- Can it hold its speed? Sustained load, not peak numbers.
- UAE warranty and a VAT invoice? Both, in writing, before you pay.
Final verdict
For AutoCAD and Revit, which is most engineering work in the UAE, the answer is a 32GB laptop with a mid-range current GPU and a 16-inch screen. In our range today that is the GIGABYTE A16 PRO RTX 5070 Ti at AED 7,399, and paying more mostly buys graphics power your software will not ask for.
For SOLIDWORKS professionally, buy a certified workstation laptop, and not from us.
For everything else, the number is 32GB. It was 32GB at the top of this page and it is still 32GB here.

Frequently asked questions
How much RAM do I need for AutoCAD?
Autodesk lists 8GB as the minimum and 32GB as recommended for AutoCAD 2026. For 2D drafting 16GB is workable. For 3D, Civil 3D or any large drawing, buy 32GB.
Is a gaming laptop good for AutoCAD?
Yes. AutoCAD and Revit do not require a certified professional graphics card, so a gaming laptop with 32GB of RAM and a current RTX card does the job and usually costs less than a workstation. SOLIDWORKS is the exception.
Can I run AutoCAD on a Snapdragon or ARM laptop?
Autodesk lists ARM processors as not supported for AutoCAD 2026. If AutoCAD is part of your work, buy an Intel or AMD machine.
How much RAM does Revit need?
Revit 2026 lists 16GB as minimum and 32GB as recommended. For large federated models, 64GB or more.
Do I need a workstation graphics card for SOLIDWORKS?
For professional use, yes. SOLIDWORKS specialists name consumer GeForce cards as the most common source of SOLIDWORKS instability and recommend a certified professional card with a certified driver.
Is 16GB enough for engineering work?
For 2D AutoCAD and for students, usually. For 3D modelling, Revit or SOLIDWORKS, it is below every published recommendation and you will feel it.
Which processor is best for CAD?
One with a high turbo clock. All of these programs lean on a single core for the operations you actually wait on. A high core count helps only with simulation and rendering.
What screen should I look for?
16-inch at WQXGA (2560 x 1600) or better. Drawing area is working comfort, and on a CAD screen the ribbon and palettes take a large share of a small panel.
Does the laptop need to be certified by Autodesk?
No. Autodesk publishes system requirements, not a hardware certification list of the kind SOLIDWORKS maintains.
Will a laptop with 8GB VRAM be faster than one with 12GB for AutoCAD?
Not meaningfully. Past the recommended 8GB, extra video memory does very little in AutoCAD. Spend the difference on system RAM or a larger SSD.
Can I upgrade RAM later?
On some models, not all. Many thin laptops have memory soldered to the board. Ask before you buy and we will tell you how many slots a specific model has.
I need five laptops for my office. Can you quote?
Yes. Submit a wholesale request and you get a formal quotation with revision history and a proforma invoice, rather than a basket.
How we prepared this guide
AutoCAD 2026 figures are from the published system requirements for AutoCAD 2026, including its specialised toolsets. The statement that ARM processors are not supported is taken from Autodesk's own system requirements documentation, which gives it in those words. Revit 2026 figures are from published Revit 2026 system requirements. SOLIDWORKS 2026 figures and the graphics card warning are from Javelin's SOLIDWORKS 2026 hardware recommendations, updated 10 October 2025.
Where we compare two processors we compare the tier the manufacturer places them in, not a benchmark we have not run ourselves.
The Dubai BIM requirement is described as it stands in published guidance: a BIM model with building permit applications for defined project categories since 1 January 2024, with thresholds lowered repeatedly since the 2013 circular. Reports of a further change during 2026 could not be confirmed against a second independent source at the time of writing, so we have not stated specific 2026 thresholds. Confirm current scope with the reviewing authority.
Every laptop, specification and price in this guide was read from our own live product pages on 30 October 2026, VAT included. Where a machine was out of stock on that date it was left out, so that everything recommended here could actually be delivered.
